His early musical development was shaped by special artistic encounters. In Basel and Salzburg, Bruno Weinmeister studied cello with Heinrich Schiff, who supported him not only as a teacher but accompanied him throughout many years of his artistic journey. During his studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, he also met Nikolaus Harnoncourt, whose ideas about music served as a major source of inspiration for the young cellist. Another influential figure from his time in Salzburg was Friedrich Gulda, with whom he shared the concert stage on several occasions.
